Speech-Language Therapy services are provided to students identified as having a communication disorder and who demonstrate the need for specialized instruction. A communication disorder may include the following:
Articulation- atypical production of speech sounds characterized by substitutions, omissions, additions or distortions that may interfere with ability to be understood.
Language- impaired comprehension and/or use of spoken and/or written language. The disorder may involve phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and/or social communication.
Fluency- interruption of the flow of speech characterized by atypical rate, rhythm, and repetitions in sounds, syllables, words, and phrases. This may be accompanied by excessive tension, struggle behavior, and other secondary mannerisms.
Voice- abnormal production and/or absences of vocal quality, pitch, loudness, resonance, and/or duration, which is inappropriate for an individual's age and/or gender.
